Stranger Things’ Hopper star hints major secret to be exposed in season 4: ‘So satisfying'

Ever since the season three finale aired in 2019, fans have wondered about the fate of the beloved protagonist Jim Hopper (played by David Harbour). After the teaser trailer showed the cop was alive, Netflix subscribers are wondering how the character will return in season four. Actor Harbour has hinted that some major secrets will be revealed in the forthcoming season.

The smash-hit sci-fi thriller took a step into 1985 in season three but a shocking finale left the fate of a fan-favourite character unanswered.

As fans wait for a release update for season four, Harbour revealed that a five-year secret about his character will finally be exposed.

The actor told Entertainment Tonight: “There’s one thing in it that plays very big in this season that I’ve known since the first frame of the first season.”

Harbour and creators The Duffer Brothers came up with an idea about Hopper’s history in season one and were thrilled when a second season was announced, meaning they could continue exploring the cop’s history.

Harbour stated that finally revealing the secret in the forthcoming season has been incredibly “satisfying”.

“We’re gonna lay it out finally, and it’s really cool,” he added.

After Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) is forced to trigger the explosion in the lab in the season three finale The Battle of Starcourt, it seemingly kills Hopper.

The finale panicked audiences as many believed that the fan-favourite was really dead.

However, the teaser for season four has revealed that he will return after somehow ending up in a Russian prison.

With viewers desperate to know what happens to the residents of Hawkins, Harbour has hinted that season four could be the final season.

He explained that season four will introduce “new stuff” but the creators are concentrating on “tightening and wrapping up in a certain direction”.

The Duffer Brothers’ objective is to wrap up the storyline in a “clear, clean, and specific” way.

Their primary goal is to make sure the series wraps up with a “definite ending at some point”.

DON’T MISS…

While Harbour was unable to discuss any further, he teased that the creators will be splitting up the final season into two parts, and possibly ending with a fifth season.

The Duffer Brothers have claimed for years that they have had Stranger Things’ ending “mapped out” since the very beginning, telling Deadline they’ve known “for quite a while”.

The brothers also promised they won’t be dragging out the series longer than they’d like, refusing to “churn out” more episodes just for the sake of it.

The duo stated that they initially had no idea if they’d get a renewal after season one, telling the publication that the series still had to have “the potential to go beyond that”.

“If it were to go beyond that, we had an idea of where it would go,” they remarked.

Speaking to Collider, Harbour also teased fans by noting that season four was his favourite of the series so far.

“I just love it. The scripts always get better.”

The star continued: “The writing continues to be of its particular, specific genre, whatever they’re doing each season is just extraordinary.

“And this, again, we top it. Like I feel it’s a big, beautiful season. I can’t wait for people to see it,” Harbour concluded.

Seasons 1 to 3 of Stranger Things are available on Netflix now.
