EastEnders exit for Whitney Dean as she’s scouted by talent agent?

Soap fans are set to see a new character join the cast of EastEnders next month. The BBC have confirmed Kate Robbins has joined the hit show, but her arrival could cause another character to leave. Could Whitney Dean’s (Shona McGarty) time in Albert Square almost be up?

EastEnders have confirmed Kate has joined the cast of the iconic soap for a short stint.

The actress, singer and songwriter is set to stick to her music roots as she plays music agent Jen Glover.

Kate is well known for starring in her own comedy series The Kate and Ted Show alongside her brother in the 1980s.

The star also appeared in both series of Victoria Wood’s Dinnerladies, before going on to become the lead voice artist on the satirical show Spitting Image.

More recently Kate has had roles on Holby City, Citizen Khan, Hold The Sunset and the upcoming season of Ricky Gervais’ After Life.

As for her role in EastEnders, Kate is playing Jen who’s an old friend of Rocky’s (Brian Conley).

In upcoming scenes on the soap, Jen is called to The Vic to meet an upcoming musical talent Rocky has discovered at the markets of Albert Square.

This musical talent Rocky has discovered turns out to be Whitney.

So, after a number of years on EastEnders, there’s a chance actress Shona could be keen to move on to other projects.

The actress herself has a budding music career in real life, having previously sung at the Henley Festival in Oxfordshire.

At the event in 2015, Shona took to the stage to perform alongside the Philharmonic Orchestra.

There could be a chance the soap star has decided to further pursue her singing career and take a step back from acting.

To find out Whitney’s fate on EastEnders, viewers will have to tune in next month to see her music storyline unfold.

Kate recently opened up about her upcoming role as Jen on the iconic BBC soap.

The actress said: “I am so excited to be joining EastEnders as Jen, we had a ball filming the scenes.

“It was surreal to be sat in The Queen Vic for my first scenes with some of the legends of Albert Square.

“Working alongside the team was a dream and I can’t wait to see the scenes on screen,” she added.

EastEnders continues on Monday at 8pm on BBC One.
