'Stop it!' Geoff Hurst urges England fans NOT to boo Italian national anthem on Sunday

The England football legend called on fans attending the Euro 2020 final at Wembley on Sunday to avoid booing the Italian national anthem. A section of England fans booed throughout Denmark’s national anthem at Wembley on Wednesday evening in England’s 2-1 triumph in the tournament’s semi-final.

Good Morning Britain’s co-host Alastair Campbell asked the 1966 World Cup winner: “Can I just ask you as someone who I know is massively respected by anybody that goes to football matches, would you just urge them to show respect to the Italian team, players and indeed their national anthem?

“This is a massive international event, the one thing that marred it the other night and against Germany was some of the crowd booing the national anthem.”

Sir Geoff replied: “Yes we have seen that sadly over the years, disrespecting the opposition.

“I do sincerely hope that the English fans can behave with great respect.

“We are talking about another country which is a fantastic country, a fantastic football country, they have got many legends, it is a very good team.

“I said at the beginning of this tournament, the team that beats Italy will probably win the tournament.”
