Conor McGregor insists he will ‘steamroll’ Dustin Poirier in their highly anticipated trilogy bout at UFC 264 on Saturday night.
McGregor lost to Poirier at UFC Fight Island in Abu Dhabi back in January and is out for revenge in Las Vegas, having lost two of his last three fights.
The winner will be in line to face newly-crowned UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira and while everything is on the line in a career-defining fight for the Irishman, he remains as confident as ever in his own abilities.

And while Poirier may have the advantage, having beaten him just a few months ago, McGregor has issued his opponent a warning shot days before they meet inside the octagon.
‘He talks some amount lately which he will pay for; it’s not going to be nice,’ McGregor told Rolling Stone. ‘I’m going through my opponent on July 10th… I’m going to knock him out. Without question.
‘I’m the most dangerous I’ve ever been, I’m the most focused I’ve ever been. And I’m going to take him out. He won’t have any way to deal with what I’m bringing on Saturday, and that’s it.’

McGregor insists that he is at his best when his attention is solely on the fight, having being distracted by boxing in the past.
‘I’m always better when I’m busy. I always say that. So, it’s going to help. When I’m active, I’m fresh, I’m dangerous, and I’m hyper-focused.
‘After I steamroll my opponent, I’ll decide what I want next,’ McGregor concluded.
The relationship between the pair is frostier than before after they fell out over a payment of $500,000 McGregor promised to Poirier’s charitable foundation.
The former two-weight champion said he had not been told specifically where his money would go and took exception to the American airing dirty laundry in public.
Poirier subsequently apologised but there is a degree of animosity, enhance by the fact that this weekend’s fight means so much for both men.

Another defeat for McGregor was erode his once fearsome presence and beg serious questions about his future as a top contender in the 155-pound division.
Poirier shunned a title shot to give the green light for the trilogy and will feel he has to win to justify the decision to put money over legacy.
No doubt as fight week grows to a climax, the verbal sparring will escalate and it will be interesting to see what other tricks McGregor has up his sleeve to throw his rival off balance.
