“Shark Week” lies on the horizon — always a good indicator that it’s July in the world of television.
This year, Discovery’s annual programming slate, now in its 33rd year, airs/streams over 45 hours of all-things sharks (and then some) from Sunday, July 11 to Sunday, July 18, including exclusive specials on discovery+.
Here’s a look at some of what’s coming up, including celebisodes featuring Tiffany Haddish, William Shatner, JB Smoove and “Stranger Things” star Noah Schnapp. These all air on Discovery, except where noted.
“Sharkbait with David Dobrik” (July 11 on discovery+). The YouTube star and his pals go diving with some really underwater beasts.
“Crikey: It’s Shark Week” (July 11 at 8 p.m.) Robert Irwin (“Crikey!: It’s the Irwins”) goes diving with conservationists Paul de Gelder and Madison Stewart.
“Tiffany Haddish Does Shark Week” (July 11 at 9 p.m.) Haddish is joined by Dr. Toby Daly-Engel, Dr. Craig O’Connell and Alanna Vellacott, ostensibly to “uncover the secret of shark sex sailing on the fanciest yachts…” Good luck with that.
“Jackass Shark Week Special” (July 11 at 10 p.m.) Steve-O, Chris Pontius and new cast members do shark stunts and test myths in typical “Jackass” style.
“Stranger Sharks” (July 12 on discovery+). Schnapp teams with YouTube science guy Mark Rober to explore undersea ruins and man-made artificial reefs.
“Expedition Unknown: Shark Trek” (July 12 at 10 p.m.) Discovery host Josh Gates takes William Shatner shark diving — a first for the 90-year-old showbiz legend.
“MotherSharker” (July 13 at 8 p.m.) If only for its title. A team of scientists explore where tiger sharks give birth, using an arsenal of state-of-the-art technology.
“Brad Paisley’s Shark Country” (July 13 at 9 p.m.) Paisley and comedian JB Smoove travel to the Bahamas to learn about sharks. Hijinks ensue.
“Tiger Queen” (July 14 on discovery+). Examines the shark population in Turks and Caicos, which has a sizable concentration of female tiger sharks. Hosted by Kinga Philipps and Dr. Austin Gallagher.
“The Real Sharknado” (July 14 at 9 p.m.) “Sharknado” stars Tara Reid and Ian Ziering see if a real Sharknado can happen. Hey, you never know.
“Dr. Pimple Popper Pops Shark Week” (July 15 at 8 p.m.) Dr. Sandra Lee goes to Turks and Caicos to explore the world of shark skin and its applications to human skin issues. Or something.
“Sharkadelic Summer 2” (Thursday at 9 p.m.) Snoop Dogg breaks down crazy shark encounters for the second consecutive year.
“Ninja Sharks: Mutants Rising” (July 16 at 8 p.m.) Catchy title as a team of scientists examine three sharks in ancient shipwrecks off the coast of North Carolina who’ve developed “unique and deadly ninja skills.” We’ll see.
“Mystery Of The Black Demon Shark” (July 16 at 10 p.m.) Adventurer Forrest Galante travels to the Baja Peninsula to get a glimpse of the legendary “El Domonio Negro,” a 50-foot shark that’s terrorized fishermen and tourists for years. But does it really exist?
“I Was Prey: Terrors of the Deep 2” (July 16 at 11 p.m.) Two survivors talk about surviving horrific shark attacks (are there any other kind?) — and not becoming underwater snacks.
“Rogue Tiger Shark: The Hunt for Lagertha” (July 17 on discovery+). There’s an aggressive beast lurking in the waters just off the coast of Costa Rica. A team of scientists explore its behavior.
“Return to Shark Vortex” (July 17 at 8 p.m.) This one takes place in the icy New England waters and includes new footage and insights into the “phantom shark” — and which members of the species reigns supreme.
