Claudia Winkleman talks 'complicated' issue with husband as Euros clash sparks 'trouble'

Claudia Winkleman, 49, joked she may be forced to call a relationship expert after tonight’s Euro semi-final clash. The Strictly Come Dancing star, who tied the knot with her husband Kris Thykier in 2000, made the cheeky admission during a Q&A session for An Evening With Claudia Winkleman alongside broadcaster Emma Freud.

It comes after England takes on Denmark in the semi-finals of Euro 2020 – a major feat that has not taken place since the 1966 World Cup.

Claudia was quizzed about possible issues arising as the Strictly star supports England while her Danish-born husband is backing Denmark.

The BBC favourite touched on tonight’s big game as she admitted: “It’s quite a complicated night in my house”.

Emma then took a question from an audience member, who asked: “As your husband is Danish will tonight’s match cause trouble at home?”

Claudia opened up about her latest offering Quite where the author shares her observations on topics such as the importance of melted cheese, why black coats are vital, and how nurses are our most precious national treasure.

As the radio host is set to release the paperback version, she opened up about feeling Imposter Syndrome.

“I was terrified,” Claudia explained. “I wrote [the book] in lockdown.”

She added: “The whole thing makes me feel slightly nauseous.”

Ahead of a virtual event organised Bookshop.org in support of independent bookshops, Claudia has shared a list of her all-time favourite books.

“I absolutely adore books and reading and love going to my local independent bookshop,” she remarked.

“Some of the books I’ve picked for emotional reasons (the Dahl was the first book I truly fell in love with, the Hardy made me want to stand on a moor in a mood and the John Boyne was my favourite book in lockdown) and others are just the books I’ve handed out to friends and read again and again.”

Claudia added: “Read these or pick your own favourite from a different list and let’s all support our local bookshops. It’s so important after 2020 that we look after the amazing indies.”
