Kevin Federline claims he 'never used his children as pawns' with ex-wife Britney Spears

Kevin Federline claimed he ‘never used his children as pawns’ and was ‘not involved’ in his ex-wife Britney Spears’ conservatorship, now in its 13th year.

The 43-year-old former backup dancer’s two-year marriage to the 39-year-old Grammy winner ended in July 2007, and just six months later she was put on 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold.

Britney’s former manager Larry Rudolph reportedly described Kevin as a ‘necessary party’ to the 2008 intervention after her meltdown over their custody arrangement.

‘Kevin went forward with the sole custody request because he didn’t feel the children were safe,’ Federline’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan told Page Six on Wednesday.

‘When somebody has children in a custody order and they lock themselves in a room and then not give them back if the police come, I mean, the other parent has to do everything they can to protect the kids.

‘Think about how traumatic that would be for kids. All I recall was when she wouldn’t release the children, after Kevin showed up at the house, she locked herself in the bathroom with the boys.’

The 73-year-old attorney added: ‘Kevin has never used his children as pawns for anything. Kevin has always acted, putting the kids first.’

Kaplan further insisted the Cali-born, Nevada-raised reality star was ‘not involved in the conservatorship’ and he was ‘not an agent of the conservator or anybody on that side of the probate case.’

Years later, Spears regained 50/50 custody of Sean Preston, 15; and Jayden James, 14; but that ended after her 30-day stint at an ‘all-encompassing wellness facility’ in 2019.

The semi-retired pop star currently has 30% custody while Kevin has 70% custody of the boys for at least the next four years before they both turn 18.

Federline – who’s said to receive $20K/month in child support – was still engaged to Shar Jackson (who mothered two of his six children) when he began dating his famous boss in 2004.

The PopoZão rapper – who married retired volleyball player Victoria Prince in 2013 – also danced for the likes of Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Destiny’s Child, Pink, and LFO.

But Kevin hasn’t appeared onscreen since scoring fourth place on GO! weight-loss competition Excess Baggage in 2012.

‘Would the fact alone of the conservatorship being terminated in and of itself make Kevin agree to change the existing custody order? No,’ Mark stated.

‘There’s a lot of information that we don’t have, and until we have it, there’s not going to be any change of custody because the kids are doing very well with Kevin.’
