Crowds watch as shirtless men brawl in the centre of Dublin 'for 20 minutes' before police show up

A crowd watched in astonishment as a group of men brawled in broad-daylight in the centre of Dublin ‘for 20 minutes’ before the police showed up.

The men threw punches and kicked each other on O’Connell Street outside McDonald’s on Sunday afternoon, with one man even taking his shirt off as he ran into the brawl.

Gearóid Murphy, who filmed the footage, described the city as a ‘dystopian, third-world sh*thole’ as the fight unfolded before him.

Mr Murphy was angered that the Garda took an alleged 20 minutes before showing up and said ‘there’s no excuse’. When the police did appear, one officer said they took so long ‘because they were out on other calls’.

In shocking footage, O’Connell Street turns into a scene of chaos as a man wearing a mustard-coloured jacket kicks a man as he is dragged away by onlookers.

The fight appears to have calmed down before the man in the mustard jacket runs at his rival, who is wearing black trousers and a black jumper, as he tries to punch him in the head before the pair are separated.

A man wearing a fluorescent red t-shirt and matching shorts then tries to join in but is pulled back by a woman who screams ‘No’.

Seconds later, the man wearing the black jumper falls to the ground after being hit by the other man wearing a mustard jacket.

Mr Murphy can then be seen stopping a woman pushing her baby in a pram from walking further and alerted her to the brawl.

He can be heard saying: ‘Careful there – there’s a lot of fighting down there, I don’t know if you saw. But they are all fighting each other over there.’

As soon as the fight seems to have calmed down a third man wearing a grey zip-up jumper and black shorts suddenly runs up to the side of the man in the black jumper and punches him in the side.

He is joined by the man in the mustard jacket who appears to punch the man in the stomach, causing him to fall on the ground as passersby carrying shopping bags look on in shock. He is then disappears from view.

In further chaotic scenes, a different man takes off his shirt and leaves it strewn on the pavement before running towards the man wearing the mustard jacket as onlookers lined the sides of the pavement.

The pair scuffle but the topless man seems to be the weaker of the two and is repeatedly punched in the head and even falls back onto the pavement at the force of one punch.

At this point, a baffled Mr Murphy says: ‘No guards. Middle of O’Connell Street.’

And then, much to the astonishment of the crowd, the man in the grey jumper is seen hugging the topless man.

Mr Murphy can be heard saying: ‘F***ing hell. No guards, it’s been five minutes at least. Welcome to Dublin lads.’

But the peace was short-lived as the man in the mustard jacket is seen punching the topless man before putting him in a head lock and kicking him in the leg, causing him to fall to the ground.

Mr Murphy can be heard speaking to an onlooker and asked her: ‘It’s still going on, what for ten minutes?’

The woman can be heard replying: ‘It started up there in front of Hot Donuts’, before claiming the fight had been going on for 20 minutes.

Two police officers attended the scene

Mr Murphy said: ‘There’s no excuse. We are in the middle of O’Connell Street and it’s been 20 minutes. Now don’t tell me no one here has called the Guards. No wonder everyone is leaving. It is a dystopian, third world sh*thole and that’s what it is.’
