‘Sponsor isn’t right… arms aren’t right’: Gary Neville criticises new Man United home shirt after design was ‘leaked’ online, with club legend saying Adidas kit is ‘basic without tapping into the heritage’ – but fans are split

  • A picture apparently showing the new Manchester United home shirt leaked out
  • Adidas design is the first to feature the club’s new shirt sponsor TeamViewer
  • But Old Trafford legend Gary Neville isn’t a fan and made his feeling known
  • He described the design as ‘basic’ and said it lacked a nod to the club’s heritage
  • But United fans were divided in response with some agreeing and others liking it

Gary Neville has criticised what could be the next Manchester United home shirt after images were leaked on social media.

A picture has emerged of an Adidas jersey that will apparently be worn by the Old Trafford club during the 2021-22 campaign.

It features a new front-of-shirt sponsor after TeamViewer replaced Chevrolet as well as a curved white collar and sleeve trim and the three Adidas stripes on the shoulder.

But Old Trafford legend Neville wasn’t impressed by the design and took to his Twitter account to make his feelings plain.

‘I tend to love every United home kit but I don’t like this one at all! (If it is the home kit). Am I being harsh?

‘Sponsor isn’t right, arms aren’t right and just feels basic without tapping into heritage. Agree or not.’

Supporter opinion in response to Neville was mixed, however, with some liking the design and others agreeing with the former player turned Sky Sports pundit.

‘This is miles better than any of those horrendous Chevrolet shirts,’ wrote one, while another said ‘completely disagree, keep it simple.’

Another wrote: ‘I’m not a United fan but I think the short looks great. Traditional and classy.’

Another comment was: ‘You are being a bit too harsh Gary. Without the logo sponsor it would probably be one of our best for ages.’

Others agreed with Neville’s reservations, however, with one saying: ‘Hate that sponsor logo looks awful.’

One fan said: ‘That sponsor is awful looks like a junior team.’

Adidas have been supplying United’s kits since 2015, having replaced Nike in a decade-long deal worth £750million.

TeamViewer, a remote software company, signed a £235m, five-year deal with United this year, the biggest shirt sponsorship deal in Premier League history.

If the design is the new United kit, they will wear it for the first time in competitive action when they host Leeds United on the opening weekend of the new season on August 14.
