Matt Harvey is really tired of pitching like ‘s–t’

Matt Harvey was authoring a heartwarming redemption story when he arrived at Citi Field on May 12.

The 32-year-old Orioles starter received multiple standing ovations from Mets fans, forgiving Harvey’s rocky exit to embrace the flame-throwing memories he provided in his early days with the franchise. Harvey entered that game with a respectable 3.60 ERA, but that might have been the high point of the feel-good story.

Harvey floundered in that start against the Mets, in another one on Wednesday night and the month in between has not been any better.

“It’s been a couple years now of being really horses–t,” Harvey told reporters after allowing seven runs in three innings in the Mets’ 14-1 demolition of the Orioles.

“It’s frustrating, the amount of work that I’m putting in between starts. Especially with the start tonight, I felt good, I had good stuff. Like I said, I missed spots.”

Over his past six starts, Harvey has allowed 31 earned runs over 19 2/3 innings and failed to get through the fifth inning in any of them. Harvey, though, said this start was different from the others. According to the Baltimore Sun, he has previously attributed his struggles to mechanical issues.

“Those are the frustrating ones where you feel good and you feel like — I was throwing 95, 96 mph and got hit around,” Harvey, whose ERA now stands at 7.41, said. “Those are the tough ones, the ones that I’ve been out of mechanics, there’s a reason for that and I guess an excuse for not pitching well. But for tonight, it was, I felt good. I just missed spots in situations where I can’t, and I did. It cost us the game.”

Of course, there is always the simpler explanation that Harvey also provided.

“Unfortunately, I pitched like [expletive],” Harvey said.
