Blake Lively’s actor father Ernie Lively has passed away.

He was 74.

His family revealed Lively died from cardiac complications on Thursday June 3 in Los Angeles, according to THR.com.

The Maryland native made his Hollywood debut with a small role in The Waltons in 1975 and went on to enjoy a steady acting career with his final role coming in the independent film Phobic, released last year.

Most notably, he played his famous daughter’s on-screen dad in her film debut The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in 2005.

He reprised the character for the movie’s 2008 sequel.

Lively was also a respected acting coach as was his wife Elaine, whom he married in 1979, and Blake has credited watching her parents teach with inspiring her own acting career.

In addition to Blake, his children Eric, Jason, Robyn and Lori are all actors too.
