The Nets and Bucks will meet in a playoff series for the fourth time, starting Saturday night at Barclays Center. Here is a look at the first three times the two met in the postseason:
2003, first round: Nets win 4-2
The second-seeded Nets of Jason Kidd, Kenyon Martin and Richard Jefferson had a tougher series than expected. After dropping Game 2 at home when Gary Payton went off for 22 points and seven assists, the Nets needed a Rodney Rogers jumper in the final seconds of Game 3 to avoid falling behind in the series. They took command in Game 5 behind a combined 58 points from Kidd and Martin and reached the NBA Finals — in which the Nets lost to the Spurs in six games — for the second straight season.
1986, first round: Bucks win 3-0
The Don Nelson-coached Bucks won 57 games during the regular season and cruised past the Nets, winning the first two games at home by double-digits, led by All-Star guard Sidney Moncrief and forward Terry Cummings. Cummings had 23 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in the closeout game at Brendan Byrne Arena. The Bucks advanced to the Eastern Conference finals, and were swept by the eventual NBA champion Celtics.
1984, second round: Bucks win 4-2
Coming off an upset in the first round, the sixth-seeded Nets started the Eastern Conference semifinal series well with a Game 1, 106-100 victory in Milwaukee behind 32 points from Darryl Dawkins. The Nets dropped the next two games by a combined 11 points, and got even in the series with a seven-point Game 4 victory in which Micheal Ray Richardson exploded for 24 points. But Bucks forward Marques Johnson was the best player on the floor over the next two contests, scoring a combined 47 points in Games 5 and 6, and Paul Pressey hit a free throw and a jumper in the final 1:22 to provide the winning margin in a one-point Bucks victory to end the series.
