New giant panda research center opens to the public in China

China’s third giant panda research center, The Qinling Research Center of Giant Panda Breeding, has opened to the public in northwest Shaanxi Province. There are only 345 giant pandas left in the Qinling region and this research center will focus on increasing the population and protecting the genetic diversity of pandas in the region. The Qinling Research Center is also home to the only brown giant panda, one of only nine in the region, that can be studied and viewed by people.
