Tesco extends food recall amid allergy fears – more batches affected

Supermarkets or brands issue food recalls due to health and safety fears. Due to it being faulty, a product is recalled because it could create damage to certain individuals.

The FSA explained that Liroy B.V. is doing everything it can to ensure its customers know what to do if they find that they have bought the product.

It said: “Liroy B.V. is recalling the above product from customers and have been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

“The company has issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.

“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”

In its notice, Liroy B.V. said: “Do not consume the product if you are allergic to soybean and bring it back to the point of sale where you will be refunded.”

The FSA also had advice for customers. It said: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to soya, do not eat it.

“Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”

When there is a problem with a food product and it is being withdrawn from shelves, the FSA publishes the information on its website.

Liroy B.V. is a Chinese food distributor based in The Netherlands, but its products are sold in some supermarkets in the UK.

The Sau Tao (Sun Shun Fuk) ST Amoy Bean Strip was sold in Tesco stores earlier this year before selling out.

Tesco has issued other food recalls over the past month, such as its own brand ice cream and itsu vegetable fusion gyoza.

Tesco’s Free From Toffee and Vanilla Cones contained milk not mentioned on the packaging, while itsu’s vegetable fusion gyoza contained seafood not declared on the packaging.

Because of this, customers were advised to take the products back to stores for a full refund.
