Baking soda, despite its name, is definitely not just used for baking. Bicarbonate of soda, to use its proper name, is a natural cleanser that has both exfoliating and deodorising properties. One of the best things about baking soda is how cheap and easy to get hold of it is, available in any supermarket up and down the country. You can use baking soda to clean numerous things around the house – and the results may well surprise you as baking soda does a more effective job than hundreds of high-end cleaning products and chemicals.
Freshen up your fruits and vegetables
Skip the pricey supermarket spray for your fresh produce as baking soda has been proven to remove more pesticides than bleach or leading chemical products.
Prepare a large bowl of water, add one teaspoon of baking soda and then soak the fresh fruit and veg for a few minutes.
Remove from the water, use a brush to scrub off the pesticide then rinse under cold water and pat dry.

The best drain un-clogger
Plumbers are often pricey and should be kept as a last possible solution – especially when baking soda exists.
Boil hot water on the stove or in the kettle and pour the whole thing down the drain.
Follow with one cup of baking soda, before making a solution of equal parts vinegar and water.
Pour this down the drain and let it sit for a few minutes, then, rinse the drain through with hot water at which point it should be clog-free.
Clean the walls
Whether it’s a small smudge or sticky spot you just can’t get rid of, marks on the wall are annoying.
But fear not, baking soda will make them disappear before you know it.
Add just enough water to (however much you need) baking soda to make a paste and apply it directly onto the wall marks.
Using a soft, non-abrasive sponge, rub the paste in then use a damp cloth to remove.
Pat the walls dry with a different clean cloth and you should notice the marks have gone.
