The Issue: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s call for a commission to investigate the attack on the Capitol.

Kudos to both the recent editorial (“A Dubious ‘Menace,’ ” May 24) and to Miranda Devine’s terrific commentary, “Truth be Damned,” in the same day’s newspaper.

I watched the TV coverage of the assault on the Capitol and thought it was outrageous to see an out-of-control mob of angry protesters take the building.

Perhaps setting up an independent commission might be in order. But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi isn’t really looking for what happened or why. She just wants to blame former President Donald Trump and the Republicans for all that ails America.

To me, this commission idea was just another partisan Democrat ploy to keep control of the House and Senate in the 2022 midterm elections. It is all politics.

Devine brought up the question about Ashli Babbitt, who was killed by the police during the protests at the Capitol.

I am surprised there is no outrage over this shooting. She was a veteran and a business owner, but months later, we know nothing. Why is this?

Pelosi is the poster girl for the modern Democratic Party. She’s vicious, nasty, controlling and just downright dishonest.

She magnified the Capitol riot into an insurrection, set up fences and deployed the National Guard as props to support her delusion after she completely ignored the months of rioting and destruction in mostly Democratic-controlled cities.

Her latest manipulation was a 9/11-style commission, designed to ferret out the truth of what occurred at the Capitol.

The truth is this so-called commission was to be controlled by Democrats, and its purpose would have been to keep alive the insurrection myth as long as possible, so that the Democrats had something to run on in 2022 and 2024.

As long as Nancy remains speaker, dysfunction and animosity will be the hallmarks of Congress.

Two impeachments, National Guard at the Capitol building and now an attempt at a 9/11-type commission to investigate the Capitol riots — it’s all nonsense.

The Democrats’ hate for Trump is hard to believe.

The Issue: Gov. Cuomo’s comment that crime is New York City’s biggest problem.

Gov. Cuomo talked about the crime in New York and the subways (“Gov: This hell has to end,” May 27).

I’d like to say to the governor: What is your solution? You did not give any. And why do we have so much crime? You signed a no-bail law that caused this crime increase.

Have you ever thought of giving Mayor Rudy Giuliani a call to ask for his input? He cleaned up crime with the NYPD commissioner.

I have lived in New York my entire life, and I have friends who left New York because of Cuomo’s high taxes and crime.

The people, Republicans and Democrats, should not put Cuomo back in office. He’s a disgrace.

Cuomo said we have a serious crime problem. What chutzpah.

Look in the mirror, governor, and you’ll see who brought this on with your stupid no-bail law.

Crimes are being committed, and there is no jail time, so the criminals are free to do it over and over again. Why not, when no one seems to care? What have you done to us, Governor? Fix it!
