Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explains Sadio Mane incident and assesses Reds' top-four hopes

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed there is no problem with Sadio Mane, despite being ignored by his forward at the full-time whistle. The German held out his hand for a high five with Mane but was ignored by the late substitute, who threw his tape to the ground in frustration whilst shaking his head.

Despite the win, Mane was clearly frustrated with his playing time after receiving just over 10 minutes from the bench.

The brave decision to leave him out of the starting XI was fully justified as the Reds ran riot in attack.

Roberto Firmino – who replaced Mane – hit a brace while Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah were also on the scoresheet.

Liverpool have now put themselves back into top-four contention with a helping hand from Arsenal following their win at Chelsea last night.

“But actually there was no time for that. It’s all fine.”

Klopp had previously conceded that his side’s hopes of finishing in the top-four had faded following the 1-1 draw against Newcastle.

He also refused to criticise Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for fielding a weakened side against Leicester on Tuesday as the Foxes won 2-1 at Old Trafford.

But now he is confident the Reds are firmly back in the picture, although they will still need their fair share of luck to make the top-four.

“We are still in the game, in the race,” he added.

“That is all we could have done tonight. It is very intense.

“We have to recover quickly and go again. We played a good game and did good enough to win so obviously we did a lot of right stuff tonight.”

Liverpool now travel to relegated West Brom on Sunday looking to carry on where they left off…
