Mets’ Jacob deGrom expected to start series finale

After throwing a bullpen session on Friday and playing catch on Saturday, Mets ace Jacob deGrom is expected to start the finale of the three-game series.

“He’s our starter [on Sunday],” manager Luis Rojas said after the Mets won their fourth straight, 4-2, over the Diamondbacks at Citi Field. “We can say that with conviction. He threw and everything is fine.”

DeGrom was scratched from his scheduled start on Tuesday against the Cardinals because of lat tightness.

Before this health hiccup, deGrom has been dominant, pitching to a 0.51 ERA while striking out 59 batters in 35 innings. He took the loss in his last start, allowing one earned run over six innings against the Red Sox on April 28 at Citi Field.

Acting general manager Zack Scott said Noah Syndergaard (Tommy John surgery) and Seth Lugo (right elbow surgery) will begin rehab assignments in the next week. Lugo is expected back in late May, while Syndergaard’s return remains targeted for mid-June.

The Mets have now won nine straight home games over the Diamondbacks. … Michael Conforto has drawn a walk in seven straight games, the longest active streak in baseball.
