Monty Don fans outraged as he's replaced on Gardeners' World 'Where's Monty?'

Monty Don and his Longmeadow garden have become a huge hit with BBC viewers, but the Gardeners’ World presenter was missing from this evening’s show. Adam Frost kicked off tonight’s instalment by revealing he would be stepping in for Monty and fans of the programme took to Twitter to vent their frustration at the news.

Opening the show, Adam began: “Hello, welcome to Gardeners’ World. Monty’s away this week so I get the opportunity to share the garden with you and loads has gone on over the winter.

“I don’t know about you but my garden’s possibly about three weeks behind where it was last year.

“So I’m still chopping, changing, moving things around and this is one of them – this is a lime balm, a lot of you might know lemon balm.

“But it’s got sort of a sutler taste to it, we use it in teas but also I’ve seen it stuffed in chicken, used that way, and with fish.”

“It’s a really good herb, but the only thing is – it can be a bit thuggish, so I’m just taking a chunk out of the back of this plant and then I’ll move it somewhere else in the garden.”

Gardeners’ World fans weren’t happy to learn Monty would be absent from today’s show as one tweeted: “Erm, Monty ain’t on #gardenersworld.”

Another asked: “Where’s Monty?! #GardenersWorld #MiddleAgedTweet.”

“Upon seeing that Monty is away this week and we have ‘Frosty’ instead….. #gardenersworld,” a third wrote.

However, other fans were pleased to see Adam in his garden, as one wrote: “Ah, great to see Adam presenting! #GardenersWorld.”

“OOOH! It’s Adam this week! Hopefully with the magnificent Ash gracing the programme too.#GardenersWorld,” someone else said.
