Two Indiana high schoolers die in crash on way to prom

Two Indiana high school students were killed and two others injured in a car crash on their way to prom Saturday night, a report said.

Lendon Byram and his girlfriend Kalen Hart have been identified as the victims who died in the two-car wreck near 281st Street and Lacy Road in Hamilton County, the Indianapolis Star reported, citing police.

The other students were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. They were on their way to the Hamilton Heights High School senior prom at the time of the crash, the report said.

Hart was a senior at Hamilton Heights, while Byram was a junior at Cathedral High School.

“My 18 year old daughter, along with her boyfriend, were killed in an automobile accident on her way to prom,” Hart’s devastated mother, Jody Bartrom Conaway, wrote on Facebook.

“No parent should ever have to bury their child,” the mother added.

All prom-related activities were cancelled following the crash, the report said.

The driver of the other car refused medical attention at the scene.

Police are investigating the crash and do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor.
