The clubs launched a joint internal investigation. Both have discussed the matter and are talking to the Rugby Football League, who say they will review and investigate the incident through the normal match review and disciplinary process.

On Thursday night Savelio tweeted: ‘There’s no reason at all for me to lie.

‘For him to call me a ‘stupid Polynesian c***’ in a game where 30 per cent are of that heritage, hell I won’t sit quietly.’

Savelio complained to referee James Child towards the end of the first half and Child placed it on report.
