Teen who moved into retirement community by mistake shocks TikTok

A zoomer in boomerville.

An Oklahoma teen’s attempt to forge a new life in Arkansas went seriously awry after she inadvertently relocated to a retirement community in the process. A clip documenting the ridiculous gaffe currently boasts 3.4 million views on TikTok.

Norma’s Madison Kohout, 19 — who goes by Madi Ann on TikTok — recounted the mistake to her followers, writing: “Me getting ready to move to an apartment out of state that I’ve never seen in person. And I realize I just moved myself into a retirement home.”

The accompanying footage shows the mortified teen doing a facepalm in front of a “Senior Citizens Apts.” sign after realizing her blunder.

The fiasco began after — on a tip from her mom, Gigi — the nursing assistant found a “super spacious” apartment online that was “significantly cheaper” than her place in Oklahoma, Kohout told Insider.

“I was able to lease a two-bedroom for only $350 a month,” gushed the eager youngster, who was so enamored, she moved in several days later without even visiting.

Kohout initially found it odd that all her neighbors were over 65. However, the reality of her living situation didn’t crystallize until she spotted the aforementioned “retirement” sign — a whole week after settling in.

“Never in my entire life did I think I would be living in a retirement home!” Kohout told Newsweek. In fact, she wouldn’t have been able to move at all if not for this particular residence’s “equal opportunity housing” status, which meant it didn’t discriminate based on age.

Thankfully, despite being the only teenager in the 10-apartment complex, Kohout is reportedly thriving in her unique surroundings.

“I have become friends with a lot of my neighbors,” said the youngster, who enjoys carousing with them, listening to their stories and eating their delicious “home-cooked” meals.

Not only that, but the Kohout can reportedly blast music anytime she wants because “some of them can’t hear,” the old soul joked.

No surprise: Kohout’s unorthodox accommodations have made waves on TikTok.

“This could be a sitcom,” remarked one commenter.

Another quipped, “congrats you’re their IT person now.”

Others shared similar stories of accidentally setting up shop in an old-age community.

“My friend moved into one when she was 24,” wrote one. “She still lives there 10 yrs later and she loves it. She plays bingo with everyone.”

Along with giving her “extra sets of grandparents,” the experience has taught Kohout an important life lesson: “Remember, if you’re struggling with rent, start your early retirement,” she said.
