When it first came out in 2001, “Shrek” captivated kids and adults alike with its gross-out humor. However, the PG-rated animated comedy may have been even more risque than once thought — thanks to an X-rated detail that was recently spotted by a superfan.
“Did anyone else catch that?” wrote TikTok user @kathy_martinez05 in a snippet of the scandalous scene, which currently boasts 8.4 million views. The video is part of an ongoing series from the film fan that catalogs sexual jokes in kids movies, exposing inappropriate moments in flicks ranging from “Cars” to “The Cat in the Hat.”
This video depicts “Shrek” nemesis Lord Farquaad (voiced by John Lithgow) sitting naked in bed as he implores his magic mirror to show him his bride-to-be, Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz).
The mirror begrudgingly obliges, upon which the character sips a martini and lets out a contented sigh.
Then the bombshell moment occurs: A bulge appears under Farquaad’s zebra-print sheets, prompting him to peek under the covers.
Martinez admitted in the comments that when she was a kid watching the movie, she thought the villain had simply spilled his drink. She’s since realized that his castle is likely growing a tower.
Suffice it to say, the cheeky clip resonated with commenters, who also had their childhood surreptitiously stolen by the Disney joke.
“My last 1% of innocence I had, just left my soul,” lamented one viewer of the explicit Easter egg.
Another wrote, “I will never forgive you for this.”
One TikTok wit joked that the mirror had pulled a disgusted face because it “knew what was coming.”
Unfortunately, it seems that over the years, filmmakers have slipped more phalluses in otherwise kid-friendly movies than Brad Pitt did in “Fight Club.”
