Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has given a scathing assessment of Frank Lampard’s management skills. 

The Italian international said that Lampard was only appointed as the Chelsea manager in 2019 because he was a ‘legend of the club’.

He also felt that the former Blues boss lacked ‘experience’ and that he was ‘was not ready for a job’ in the Premier League.

Having had three different managers since his arrival at Chelsea, Jorginho was left somewhat impressed by Lampard’s managements skills. 

The midfielder believes Lampard ‘skipped’ some vital steps that you ‘need’ to succeed with such a prolific team.

He told ESPN: ‘Look, I’ll be very honest with you about Lampard. I believe that because he is a legend of the club, I believe that he skipped some steps that you need to learn to reach a great team.

‘He arrived at the club where he is a legend, without having experience with other teams.

‘I think he arrived too early, skipped a few steps and was not ready for a job at that level, honestly,’ he concluded. 

Lampard was sacked in January following a dismal slump in form that saw Chelsea drop to ninth in the Premier League table.

Abramovich, speaking publicly in a statement following the sacking, described Lampard as a ‘man of great integrity’ but added: ‘Under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers’ with the club in mid-table.

Former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel stepped into replace the Chelsea legend and as a result Chelsea have moved to fourth in the Premier League standings.
