Avoid these Google Play Store apps — popular downloads could REALLY cost you

While Trend Micro also said: “Joker operators seem to never run out of tricks, so security researchers, organisations, and users alike should remain vigilant in detecting and thwarting the malware.

“As security researchers unmask hundreds of Joker apps, the malware quickly takes on a different face in the form of new apps. Due to this, users are advised to avoid downloading unnecessary apps. It is also recommended to periodically check for unused apps and delete them. Another good security practice would be to habitually patch and update devices. It would also help to stay updated about the latest research on mobile security.”

The offending apps that Trend Micro and McAfee highlighted have been taken down from the Google Play Store. However, these dangerous downloads were installed on almost 750,000 devices before being removed from the Play Store.

If you managed to install any of these apps prior to their Play Store ban then be sure to remove these programmes as soon as possible.
