Reality Steve issues apology to Bachelor Nation star Demi Burnett: 'I crossed boundaries'

Reality Steve has issued an apology to former Bachelor contestant Demi Burnett after she accused him of making ‘unwanted and unprompted’ sexual advances towards her.

‘I had no idea at the time that conversation made you feel that way,’ began the 45-year-old reality television gossiper in a tweet issued Wednesday, referring to a phone conversation that took place between himself and Burnett, 25, last August.

He continued: ‘I am apologizing now knowing how uncomfortable I made you feel. I crossed boundaries I didn’t think at the time I was crossing.

‘I did not know this until today. So for that, I hope you can accept my apology,’ concluded Reality Steve, who boasts 336,000 Twitter followers.

Shortly after sharing his apology, a fan tweeted at Steve criticizing him for seemingly putting some of the blame on Burnett for their exchange.

‘I’m not blaming her at all. I did not know about how she felt until less than an hour ago. So once I found out she felt this way, I apologized to her both personally and here on Twitter,’ he replied. 

Burnett’s allegations were made public on Tuesday, April 20, when she uploaded a four-part text post to Twitter refuting Steve’s recent claims that he had evolved as a reality TV commentator over the years.

Demi famously appeared on Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor, where she was eliminated in the sixth week. 

‘No Steve! You haven’t changed. I wasn’t going to ever say anything out of fear of criticism. But after being made aware of this tweet and your history of treating women. I had to say something,’ the 25-year-old Texas native began.

She first accused Steve of having a ‘problematic history of gossiping about [Bachelor Nation] cast social lives,’ as well as ‘often spreading gossip that was ‘false and damaging’ to those people’s careers and reputations.

‘This has resulted in a sort of power you have over us. Out of fear of your talking bad about us. Many cast members in Bachelor Nation decide to try to have a professional relationship with you and be friendly hoping that might prevent you from gossiping about us.’

She claimed that after Steve ‘outed her as bisexual before I had a chance to tell my family’ she felt compelled to form a professional relationship with him in the attempt to prevent more of her life’s private details from being divulged to the public.

‘I figured f**k it! I might as well respond to you to try to avoid you gossiping about my personal life any longer,’ she continued. 

Demi went on to recall the August 2020 conversation that occurred between her and Steve, claiming that he had first ‘messaged me telling me you had something you wanted to share with me.

‘You said, ‘it was bizarre and you something your couldn’t put in writing.’ Fearing it was some gossip you heard about me, I agreed to talk on the phone with you,’ she continued.

Once on the phone, Demi said that Steve ‘proceeded to tell me about a graphic sex dream you had of me.’

Burnett stressed that the conversation made her feel ‘uncomfortable’ and she ‘wasn’t sure how I should handle [Steve’s] unwanted and unprompted sexual advance.

‘So, I laughed and tried to get off the phone with you as quickly as possible.’

Demi, who was ‘always friendly’ to Steve, accused him of ‘[taking] her friendliness as an excuse to trick [her] into listening to [his] sexual fantasies about [her].

‘It felt gross. I don’t think I deserved to have you make me feel this way. I don’t think these other women, who you so disgustingly mocked for cheap laughs and website traffic, deserved it either.’

Demi wrote that she was ‘afraid to say anything out of fear of your retribution but then I thought of the many other future women to come on this show and I don’t think they deserve it either. 

‘You haven’t changed Steve and future women don’t deserve your harassment either.’

To conclude her post, Demi included a screenshot of an alleged text conversation that occurred between her and Steve shortly after their explicit phone call. 

‘And yeah I reeeeeeaally hope I can trust you with what I told you. I wanted to share it with you bc it was so random and so funny,’ wrote Steve in one text, to which Demi replied: ‘I got u no worries :)’

He followed up with: ‘But it was so f**king hot ha ha. If it sucked I wouldn’t have told you ha ha.’

Controversy surrounding Reality Steve and his ‘treatment of women’ came about earlier this week, after he was called out on the Chatty Broads podcaste – hosted by Bachelor contestant Bekah Martinez and actress Jess Ambrose.

Martinez criticized Steve for showing ‘an extreme internalized bias towards just women as a whole’ in the pieces he has ‘published on his website and his Twitter.’

She labeled the seemingly misogynistic content as ‘extremely problematic’ and ‘really disturbing.’

After being discussed on the latest episode of Chatty Broads, Steven issued a broad Twitter apology addressing ‘my past writings that were brought to light again.’

‘There is/was no excuse for them. I’m embarrassed I thought that way, I’m embarrassed I wrote it, and ever since, I’ve done whatever I could to change that line of thinking,’ he wrote. 

‘Those that have followed me in recent years have recognized the change in my blog, in my tweets, and on my podcast. While it should have been removed earlier, they are currently being removed from my site. 

‘I have never shied away from acknowledging these writings and will always apologize for them. I do not think that way anymore & I hope my behavior in recent years has proven that. I’m sorry to anyone who had to read those things. I am and will continue to do better,’ concluded Steve.
