Bayern Munich 'interested in signing 18-year-old star Eduardo Camavinga this summer'

Bayern Munich ‘interested in signing 18-year-old Rennes star Eduardo Camavinga this summer despite competition from Real Madrid’… with Germans looking for cover in midfield

  • Eduardo Camavinga is one of the brightest prospects in European football
  • The 18-year-old is a France international and first-team regular for Rennes
  • He has already been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer
  • But Bayern Munich have now entered the race as they eye a defensive midfielder

Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing 18-year-old France star Eduardo Camavinga from under the noses of Real Madrid.

Camavinga, who has now been a first-team regular for Rennes in Ligue 1 for two years and is a senior France international, is one of European football’s brightest prospects and is likely to move on this summer.

He has a contract at Rennes which expires next summer yet despite constant links to Real Madrid, German and European champions Bayern are actively looking for cover in midfield and they are targeting a transfer for Camavinga in the coming weeks, according to France Football

The report details that Bayern are looking for cover in midfield for first-choice duo Josh Kimmich and Leon Goretzka.

Corentin Tolisso is currently injured and thus the Bayern hierarchy are looking for a central defensive midfielder capable of covering for Kimmich and Goretzka.

The Bundesliga champions, who will claim their ninth-consecutive German title with a win against Mainz this weekend, also had Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus on their list of midfield options.

However, Gladbach have set an asking price of around £39m for the 24-year-old, which is deemed excessive by Bayern.

Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic would offer Camavinga a good amount of playing time, though the teenager is likely to want to know who manager Hansi Flick’s replacement is when he leaves at the end of the season before committing to the Allianz Arena.

Camavinga may also be persuaded by the amount of French stars already in the Bayern squad.

By July, there will be nine Frenchman in the team – including new signing Dayot Upamecano – which would ease Camavinga into a new country and new environment.

Camavinga – who does not turn 19 until November – has already made 78 first-team appearances for Rennes and also has three caps for France which include a memorable overhead-kick goal against Ukraine in October.
