Jana Kramer announces she is divorcing husband Mike Caussin after six years of marriage

Jana Kramer has filed for divorce from her husband Mike Caussin after six years of marriage.

The 37-year-old country singer made the announcement via an emotional text post shared to Instagram on Wednesday, which began with the poignant phrase: ‘It’s time.’

Though Kramer did not cite a specific reason for the split, a source told People that the 34-year-old NFL star ‘cheated and broke her trust again.’

‘After fighting for the marriage for so long, she’s come to terms with the realization that his patterns were never going to change,’ the insider alleged.

Jana, who boasts 2million Instagram followers, expressed anguish over the end of her marriage to Mike, whom she originally wed in 2015. 

‘As I try to make sense of a reality I never wanted to believe could be possible again, those words have now become a reality,’ she wrote in her Instagram post.

‘I’ve fought y’all. I’ve loved hard. I’ve forgiven. I’ve put the work in. I’ve given everything I have, and now I have nothing else to give.’

Despite her heartbreak, Kramer stressed that she ‘still believe[s] wholeheartedly in marriage, love, and rebuilding.’

‘I just can’t fight any longer. It’s time to heal. Thank you for all the love, heart, and support, in many ways you have fought on this journey alongside me, and for that I am grateful.

‘I’ll always encourage you to continue the good fight, but you can’t fight it alone,’ concluded the Beautiful Lies songstress, who shares daughter Jolie Rae, five, and son Jace Joseph, two, with Caussin. 

Still speaking to People, a source close to the situation stressed that the estranged couple are now ‘focusing on their kids.’

Jana and Mike began dating in August 2014 but split up weeks later when she announced on social media that he cheated on her. They later reconciled, and got married in May 2015 in a rustic outdoor ceremony in Caussin’s home state of Virginia. 

After admitting he cheated again, the couple separated in August 2016 when their daughter Jolie Rae was just seven months old.

Although the reasons behind the couple’s second split were not explicitly revealed at the time, Jana later confirmed rumors of infidelity in a statement to People.

‘Mike was the biggest of the betrayals because it was the first time in a relationship where I truly loved the version of me,’ she told the outlet at the time.

‘I didn’t feel I had to prove that I was good enough, I was vulnerable and finally at peace with myself. But I was fooled.’

Mike, also speaking to People on the matter, acknowledged that ‘certain actions and behaviors have caused issues in my marriage and I am deeply sorry for the pain I have caused Jana.

‘I have and will continue to take the steps needed to change who I am as a person in order to be a better husband and father,’ concluded Mike, who had actually filed for divorce from Jana at the time.

In the couple’s book titled The Good Fight: Wanting to Leave, Choosing to Stay, and the Powerful Practice for Loving Faithfully, they discussed the aftermath of Mike’s multiple affairs and how they worked hard to salvage their marriage. 

‘I’ve dated only a few women in my life. Most of my relationships can be more described as ‘talking to,’ which essentially means we were sleeping together but I never committed enough to get my feelings involved. And when I did commit, I inevitably cheated. I couldn’t be alone,’ explained Mike in one excerpt.

‘Now, I loved and still love being Jana’s husband, but early in the relationship I had no idea who I was anymore.’

As for Jana’s perspective, the country singer wrote in an essay for Good Morning America that the pain she felt ‘consumed my every thought and physically hurt me more than I thought I could handle.

‘Thinking back, it seems like a terrible nightmare that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.’

Despite a divorce filing in 2016 and ‘several weeks’ of separation, the pair eventually reconciled and renewed their wedding vows by December 2017.

‘2017……..you broke my heart, you broke me down, you made me question everything, but damn did you make me strong,’ captioned Jana, who shared images of the couple’s vow renewal ceremony to social media.

She continued: ‘You taught me patience, you taught me family was everything. You made me believe not only in myself but the power of forgiveness.

‘You turned me into the women I always wanted to be. Here’s to always believing in love and fighting for it,’ she concluded.

Alongside her marriage struggles, Jana was also coping with the trauma of suffering a miscarriage, which she revealed to the world just weeks before renewing her vows with Mike. It was the third miscarriage she ever endured.

In 2018, things appeared to be going well for the couple, with Jana falling pregnant with their ‘rainbow baby,’ son Jace Joseph, whom she and Mike welcome into the world in November of that year.

Unfortunately, feelings of betrayal would be felt once again by Kramer after she uncovered a photo of a topless woman on Caussin’s Apple Watch, that he had removed from his phone and purposely kept from her.

‘When I looked, I was like, ‘Goddamnit.’ I saw it and my heart just fell. It’s here. It’s happened again,’ recalled Kramer on her and Caussin’s Whine Out podcast.  

‘I’m such an f***ing idiot, and I immediately called my best friend and I was just shaking crying outside.’

Mike explained on the podcast that he was ‘terrified’ to tell Jana that he had received the topless picture, despite knowing it would be ‘the right thing to do.’

‘I see it and I know the right thing to do is to go get Jana, pull her aside and say, “Hey. I just received this. I don’t know what the hell it is but I just need you to know.” I was terrified to do so,’ he recalled.

In October 2020, Kramer revealed on her Whine Down podcast that an unidentified woman had sent her a direct message over social media that Mike had stepped out on their marriage with a friend of her’s, and hadn’t used protection in doing so.

‘I have this fear when I go through my DMs,’ Kramer said. ‘It just said, “Mike cheated again, I’m sorry.”‘

She said she ‘reached out’ to the account, which had with zero followers.

‘I started DMing this person,’ Kramer said. ‘They’re telling me things that maybe, could make sense or maybe, could be wrong. She said a few things about his hometown and I’m like, “OK, they could just look that up on the internet.”

‘She said something about, “He’s got a secret device,” which has always been a fear of mine, that maybe he has some secret device that he talks to other people on.’

Kramer said that she looked through the house for a secret phone and talked to her therapist about the trust issues.

The Rochester Hills, Michigan native said that while the accuser had no proof that Caussin – a former NFL tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins – had cheated, she wasn’t able to unring the bell based on his past actions.

‘I can’t ignore it completely because of our history … so I’m just kind of, like, stuck,’ she said. ‘The really sucky thing about it is that my default can’t go to “There’s no way.” That’s where it hurts the most, where I can’t just go, “I trust him 1000 percent. He would never do that” – I think that’s where it stung.’

Kramer, who played Alex Dupre on One Tree Hill, said that the direct messages struck a particularly uncomfortable chord for her based on their past.

‘The very first time I found out Mike cheated on me was through a DM,’ she said. ‘I think – I told my therapist this – I almost have this weird PTSD where I go through my DMs, almost looking to see if the truth is gonna prevail in the DM again.’

Caussin on the podcast said that he didn’t hold it against his wife when she stopped speaking with him in the wale of the distressing DM. Kramer later took to Instagram noting that he continues to receive treatment for his past sex addiction.

‘Mike is in recovery and anyone that lives with addiction knows how scary that can be because as much as we want to control and manage, it’s not our job,’ she wrote. ‘Today I see him working his program, I see him showing up as a father and as a husband, and I see his words matching his actions.’

The couple’s most recent bump in the road occurred just a few weeks before Jana’s divorce announcement on Wednesday.

Taking to Instagram, the singer revealed to her following that she and Mike had had a verbal ‘blow up.’ She included a photo of herself crying, which she took shortly after the fight.

‘Nothing is perfect. This was a few weeks ago in Canada. I took this picture to almost remind myself that even though in the moment it seems like everything is doomed it’s not,’ she wrote in her post’s caption. 

She continued: ‘No relationship is perfect and when blow ups or fights happen sometimes we believe it’s done and over but really it’s a moment for growth and more understanding and to lean into your partner.

‘Just know it’s not the end of the world,” she continued. “And we all have these moments so ur not alone. Fights happen. No relationship is perfect.. Now the Important thing is in the end are you fighting the good fight together? … ur not alone in ur struggles xo.’

Prior to Mike, Jana was married to Mike Gambino in 2004, and actor Johnathon Schaech from 2010-2011.

Schaech recently tweeted a photo from their wedding day saying he had to ‘explain’ it to his son. The exes were married for a reported 12 days before splitting up in July 2010.

And on Monday, April 5, Kramer admitted she was ‘annoyed’ and ‘bothered’ by the actor’s decision to dredge up the past in that way.

Kramer said on her Whine Down podcast that she didn’t understand why Schaech also tagged her in the tweet.  

‘It kinda rubbed me wrong,’ Kramer explained, via Fox News. ‘Like, why are you posting a photo of our wedding day? That’s from the past.’ 

She went on: ‘I didn’t want to see that photo on my Twitter. And now you’re tagging me in it. So I don’t want other people to see that photo. 

‘Yeah, you can Google it if you’re searching and you wanna see it. It bothered me.’
