Prince Harry has got himself a new job as Chief Impact Officer’ at a mental health start-up in California, a position which is known as a ‘chimpo’ in business circles.

Congratulations to him – but it’s getting attention for the wrong reasons in Japan.

That’s because the word is slang for ‘penis’.

Japanese news site SoraNews24 reported that people were laughing at the job title, saying things like ‘I bet this news made junior high school boys happy’ and
‘It doesn’t matter what age you are, the word ‘chimpo’ always raises a smile’.

Another said: ‘Imagine if he came to Japan and introduced himself as a ‘chimpo’ to officials? I’d love to see their faces!’

The title isn’t just specific to him, as many companies will have a chimpo.

He just happens to be the chimpo for coaching company BetterUp Inc, a move which was announced in March.

After the move was announced, he told the Wall Street Journal he wanted to use the role to ‘create impact in people’s lives’.

He went on: ‘Proactive coaching provides endless possibilities for personal development, increased awareness, and an all-round better life.’

Harry will not be directly managing employees as part of his role, but is expected to be a part of meetings and special company events, the organisation’s CEO Alexi Robichaux said.

The prince is now listed as part of BetterUp’s leadership team on their website. It features a black and white photo, and describes him as a ‘humanitarian, military veteran, mental wellness advocate, and environmentalist’.
