Jose Mourinho was left baffled after being quizzed on Tottenham’s new paint sponsor ahead of the north London side’s trip to Goodison Park in the Premier League.

Spurs proudly announced their partnership with the brand on Twitter on Thursday morning, only for Dulux’s official account to mock the club in a series of now-deleted tweets.

Among the gaffes included Dulux responding to a fan’s joke about storing paint cans in the club’s trophy room because Spurs ‘don’t seem to put anything else in there’.

Dulux responded soon after, posting a picture of an empty glass cabinet with the Spurs badge on, claiming the ‘unused trophy cabinet’ was ‘for sale’.

Soon after mocking their new commercial partners, Dulux deleted the offending tweets, seeing their relationship with the Premier League side get off to the worst possible start.

A reporter took to quizzing Mourinho on the disastrous start of the new partnership, asking the Portuguese if he likes ‘the old English sheepdog’ synonymous with the Dulux brand.

But the Spurs boss was not following the line of questioning, offering a puzzled expression before responding ‘what is that’ ahead of his side’s clash with Everton this weekend.

Mourinho has more pressing matters to contend with ahead of his side’s visit to Merseyside, with Spurs in the midst of a poor run of form at the worst possible time as they look to seal a place in the top four.

The north Londoners have won one of their last three top flight games, having dropped points against Newcastle before suffering defeat to Manchester United last weekend. In fact, Spurs have dropped 18 points from winning positions this season.

‘I know why it happened, I know also that you can look at it in a different perspective – a team that starts matches well, starts winning, and that means something positive,’ he said.

‘That you like to forget. The positive aspect is that but when you are in winning position and lose points, there are also negative things side by side to it.’

When pushed on why his side are dropping points, Mourinho responded: ‘That’s not what I’m ready to discuss with you. (When?) Maybe never.’

Spurs have a big nine days ahead, starting on Friday night at Goodison Park. They take on Southampton in a midweek fixture before going to Wembley to take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

Mourinho insisted that the results against Everton and Southampton will have no bearing on his side’s fortunes in the showpiece final in London next weekend.

‘Independent of the result at Goodison and the result against Southampton, it’s a big nine days and it’s going to end with a cup final which of course for all of us is going to be an important moment.

‘So we are not depending on the Goodison result to go to that final with the best spirit or feelings but in this moment the final is still a little bit far. And of course the Goodison match is very important – the distance between the two teams is very short, they have one match in hand but the distance is very, very short.

‘They have similar objectives, they’re going to fight with us and other clubs for the best possible position and to see if we or them can get European position.

‘So it’s an important match, we need to separate the waters – we need to say the final is important but it’s not the match tomorrow. We need to focus on an important match.’
