Our Yorkshire Farm's Amanda Owen talks giving birth to SIX of her children at roadside

Amanda Owen, 46, is back for a new series of her show Our Yorkshire Farm this evening. Ahead of this, she was asked about her life as a shepherdess and a mother to nine children, who she shares with husband Clive Owen.

This Morning hosts Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond quizzed the farmer on why she decided to give birth to their eighth child together alone as her spouse slept.

She explained: “After having six of them by that point at the side of the road, the thought of just staying at home, was kind of like a really good option.

“I was so fed up of spoiling people’s picnics and all the rest of it.

“So, I thought right well, this time I’m just going to go it alone.

“I put the kettle on, stoked up the fire and basically had her in front of the fire with just a terrier as a birthing partner, which is perfect.”

Her admission prompted the hosts to laugh, as she continued: “Honestly, don’t knock it, it’s great.”

After giving birth alone, she went upstairs to wake up her husband.

“The point of the matter is he had been at seven births previously and we spend our whole lives dealing with birthing things, so it wasn’t exactly something that I was particularly bothered about,” she added.

“I did it myself and I’m very happy and pleased that I did.”
