Eamonn Holmes rages as TV stars given first name 'status' – before fan asks about Lorraine

Eamonn Holmes, 61, made the comment on his social media page, where he asked his one million followers why people on TV have been dropping their surnames. Fans were quick to respond to the This Morning presenter as some pointed out his ITV co-star Lorraine Kelly is one of them.

Eamonn posted on March 31 to his followers, making the observation about first names on television.

He wrote: “It’s now become the norm that very few people on TV are given surnames.

“X (no surname) will be back at (insert time) with the news, sport, weather … all sounds very matey except nobody has a clue who they are !

“Does it cost to mention full names ?”

Coronation Street star Charlie Lawson spoke in support, writing: “It’s patronising, cheap shot, s****y TV speak!

“GMTV started it with Dr Hilary, then it was Colonel Bob! It’s , Capt Tom now. (sic)

“Poor wee viewers have to held in our arms because it’s before 10am.”

However, others pointed out how his good friend and fellow ITV presenter Lorraine does just this.

One follower wrote to Eamonn: “I don’t know, what does Lorraine think?”

Eamonn replied, pointing out she had earned it, like other ITV presenters including Ant & Dec as well as Piers Morgan.
