Landvetter airport panic: Passengers evacuated in Gothenburg as bomb threat sparks alarm

A plane heading from Warsaw to Gothenburg was forced to land at Landvetter Airport in Sweden after the Polish airline received a bomb threat. As the plane entered Swedish airspace, it was monitored closely.

Anders Lännholm, rescue leader at the Sea and Air Rescue Centre, said: “The airline in Poland received the bomb threat and announced the crew who chose to continue to Landvetter.

“We put helicopters on standby in Kristianstad and when the plane came further north, helicopters in Gothenburg took over.

“We also informed the military who were involved.”

Police, ambulance and rescue services attended the incident as the passengers and crew were evacuated.

Earlier today, a bomb threat at a South Florida airport caused mass disruption and delay.

NBC South Florida claimed police were investigating a suspicious package at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport.

The airport said there is an “ongoing law enforcement investigation” going on outside of Terminals 2 and 3.

“Disruptions at airport operations may be possible and travelers are advised to check with their airline for the latest flight status before coming to the airport,” the advisory read.

This evacuation came just after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the UK’s travel corridors would be closed in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The move meant those arriving in the UK will have to go into a period of self-isolation for 10 days regardless of where they have come from.

Anyone found to be breaking this rule would have been slapped with a fine of up to £1,000.
