Dan Walker rages at 'selfish' park goers as videos of litter go viral: 'Take it with you!'

Dan Walker, 43, was among those disgusted with the aftermath of the hot summer weather over the past couple of days, which saw thousands descend on outside spaces across the country. Not only did the sunshine bring people outside, but the relaxing of the current coronavirus rules now permit up to six people to meet outside, but the results have proven detrimental to the environment.

With the UK on the verge of reopening on 12 April, it’s an understatement everyone is excited to get back to some sort of normality after four long months of total lockdown for the third time.

But despite the rules changing to allow us to sit outside with friends and family, it seems somethings never change, as the parks, fields and even streets around the country were filled with litter.

With multiple videos surfacing online shot by disappointed members of the public, there was a national outcry urging people to think about their actions of leaving their rubbish instead of taking it home or putting it in the bin.

Beer bottles, plastic wrappers and food can be seen strewn across the grass and Dan was totally appalled by the perpetrators behaviour.

Sharing the Editor of the Sheffield Telegraph Ellen Beardmore’s tweet, the BBC Breakfast star blasted those who were selfish enough to leave their rubbish without a second thought.

“TAKE IT WITH YOU!!!” he exclaimed in capital letters.

“The height of selfishness.”

Ellen’s own post read: “This is what beautiful Endcliffe Park looks like today after one day of warm weather.

“Barbecues, clothes, booze bottles, and at least one wallet that people didn’t bother to take home.”

The comments section was full of users agreeing with the telly star, with many questioning the mindset of the “litter bugs”.

“Words fail me,” one wrote, “So many people that do things like this? What IS the matter with you all? You know who you are, you took the trouble to carry this stuff to the park, can’t you take it home again? Have some pride in your surroundings!”

Another added: “Scenes like this in parks and green spaces all over the country, its disgusting! It takes 2 minutes to tidy up after yourself and take it home with you! This is just the result of lazy selfish people…”

A third retorted: “Pure selfishness. You’d think people would be more appreciative of our freedom and want to take care of places we are allowed to visit.”

“This is disgusting ffs u were able 2 carry those bottles etc there when they were full so why can’t you take it to the bin/home when they’re empty? This is nothing to do with being in lockdown either, lame excuse if anything thought it would teach us appreciate outdoors more?” a fourth sighed.

Someone else commended the dedicated people who help to clear up the mess, despite not being involved.

“Luckily we have the public spirited people who go around picking up the rubbish,” they said, “One tweeted about it and got the reply ‘more fool you’. It makes me very sad. Just take it home.”

Dan wasn’t the only celebrity voicing his concerns over our responsibility when it comes to rubbish.
