Gigantic water bottles are the ridiculous new celebrity ‘It’ accessory

This trend is perfect for anyone thirsty for attention.

Camel-impersonating celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Julianne Hough and Lucy Hale are redefining the idea of the covetable accessory. Instead of a pricey It bag, they’re lugging around massive gallon and half-gallon water bottles.

The idea, of course, is that the vessel motivates you to drink more H20 throughout the day. The recommended daily intake is eight glasses, or 64 ounces, per day. But if you’re downing a gallon, you’re getting exactly double that amount.

Like many glowing gals, “Dancing With the Stars” alum Hough has long touted guzzling water as beauty advice. But even she’s leveled up to a full gallon from her past puny bottles.

“I have this water bottle that goes everywhere with me,” she told Delish Magazine in 2018. “Every night, before bed, I put ice in it and fill it to the top — it holds 40 ounces of water — and I drink it throughout the night. Not all of it, obviously, but I have to have cold water before I go to bed.”

While the gargantuan bottle is convenient, it can also act as a hydration nanny.

Recent Twitter quitter Chrissy Teigen and supermodel Jenner both proudly carry the popular HydroMate Motivational water bottle, the gallon version of which sells for $27.98 on Amazon. The bottle features time markers that measure your hourly hydration, essentially telling you when you are falling behind. “Ready. Set. Drink!” it says on the 8 a.m. slot. “No excuses,” reads the 4 p.m. tick. (Sadly, it doesn’t come with adult diapers, which may be necessary when guzzling all that liquid.)

In March, “50 Shades of Grey” star Dakota Johnson was photographed on the set of “Am I OK?” lugging a gallon jug, which, based on her tilted posture, appeared to be heavy. Indeed, a full gallon of water weighs more than 8 pounds, allowing it to double as a portable dumbbell for impromptu bicep curls on the go. Fun!

But is the whopper water bottle really more about substance than style? Beth Czerwony, a registered dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic, poured cold water on the practice as a universal standard.

“Drinking a gallon of water a day is not really necessary, but it’s not going to hurt you either,” Czerwony said. “Everybody’s hydration levels are different, but most people don’t need a daily gallon.”

Here are just a few of the oversized water bottle options on the market now:

Kids can hop the trend train, too: Ideal for packing to take to school or sitting on their nightstand before bed, Yeti’s junior Rambler model will keep the kiddos hydrated all day long.

The bottle comes in a more kid-friendly 12-ounce size, great to grasp with small hands and put into kids’ backpacks. It is available in five fun colors, including bright blue, pink, red, black and seafoam green — sure to match their ever-changing favorite color. The bottle also has a flip-out straw for easy spill-proof sipping and a clip-able handle to attach to backpacks or strollers.
