Steph's Packed Lunch cancelled: Channel 4 show taken off air in schedule shake-up

Last year, Steph McGovern moved from the BBC to Channel 4 and launched her own lunchtime show. After the first lockdown lifted, the show moved into a studio and Steph’s Packed Lunch was broadcast daily rivalling ITV’s Loose Women. But, this week, the chat and news show has been taken off the TV guide this week in a schedule shake-up. It comes after the presenter is taking a week off over Easter and won’t be returning until Monday 12 April in its usual time slot.

After Steph signed off last Friday, the official Twitter account for Steph’s Packed Lunch broke the news to fans.

“And that’s it – we’re off air now over Easter. BUT – we’ll all be back again on Monday 12th April at 12:30pm on @Channel4. See you then!” It wrote.

And fans were not happy with the news, replying to the Tweet,

One said: “#PackedLunchC4 Awe, now what will I watch in the afternoons till you’re back. Can’t you show repeats of this show?   Guess it’s back to boring Loose Women for a couple of weeks. You’ll be so missed!”

“Nooo. Hope you all have a well deserved break with your families and we will eagerly await your return on the 12th. Gonna miss you all,” another mentioned.

“Gonna miss you all. Lockdown lunchtimes have been so much easier with you to share it with #PackedLunchC4,” a tweet read.

Someone mentioned: “@PackedLunchC4 and @Channel4 Just turned TV on to watch and you’re not there!!”

While someone else added: “@PackedLunchC4 and @Channel4 Aww so going miss you guys. You’ve been the highlight of this miserable lockdown. Have a such a laugh watching you. Enjoy your break. Happy Easter!”

Instead of Steph’s Packed Lunch airing, Channel 4 is airing a repeat of Couple’s Come Dine With Me.

With many of the other live daytime shows, during the summer holiday’s someone else sits in for the main presenters.

Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes replace Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning whereas Christine Lampard or Andy Peters sit in for Lorraine Kelly on Lorraine.

When Susanna Reid and her former co-star Piers Morgan were off during the summer, Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard would be bumped up to the top of the week.

And the likes of Ranvir Singh, Charlotte Hawkins, Adil Ray and Richard Madeley would present the latter days.

As for what Steph is doing this week instead of filming the show, she took herself off for a run yesterday according to her Instagram Stories.

She then posted another photo of herself with a new book which she is halfway through and branded “brilliant”.

Steph’s Packed Lunch returns April 12 at 12:30pm on Channel 4.
