Several hurt in Virginia Beach shooting

Multiple people were shot — with some suffering life-threatening injuries — at the oceanfront in Virginia Beach late Friday night, local police said.

The Virginia Beach Police Department “is investigating a shooting involving several victims with possibly life-threatening injuries,” the department tweeted early Saturday.

“Large police presence at the oceanfront between 17th and 22nd St.,” the tweet continued.

“Please avoid the area at this time. More to follow as it becomes available.”

The shooting happened just before 11:30 p.m. on Pacific Avenue, according to 13 News Now.

Several people had been hurt by the gunfire, Bruce Nedelka of Virginia Beach Department of Emergency Medical Services told the station.

Images gathered from the scene by the station show a large police presence along the beachfront community. A portion of nearby Interstate 264 was also closed, Wavy.com reported.

The circumstances of the shooting are unclear and police could not be immediately reached for comment.
