Liverpool ‘lead AC Milan and Juventus in the race to sign PSV star Donyell Malen’ as Jurgen Klopp continues search for striker to help reinvigorate his misfiring frontline

  • Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign PSV striker Donyell Malen
  • Dutch forward is also wanted by AC Milan and Juventus, claim reports in Italy
  • The 22-year-old goalscorer has been prolific since leaving Arsenal in 2017
  • Jurgen Klopp is looking for more options up front to reinvigorate his attack

Liverpool are reportedly leading AC Milan and Juventus in the race to sign PSV striker Donyell Malen this summer.

The Dutch forward is being targeted by the reigning Premier League champions and could go for as much as £30million this summer should PSV decide to cash in on him.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool face plenty of competition for Malen’s signature but it is the Merseyside club who are favourites to land him.

The 22-year-old has seen his stock rise in recent years after establishing himself as one of the Eredivisie’s most potent finishers.

Since leaving Arsenal in 2017, Malen has scored 51 goals in 110 appearances for PSV, with nearly half of that total coming this season as the Dutch giants sit second behind another one of the player’s former clubs, Ajax.

His performances in the Europa League have made a number of clubs sit up and take notice, which could spark a bidding war this summer.

While Malen has several potential suitors, it is believed that the Reds are in pole position to land him, with Jurgen Klopp monitoring the player’s progress for both club and country in recent months.

Klopp has been searching for more attacking reinforcements this season with his forward line not hitting their usual high standards in what has been a disastrous title defence.

While Malen remains a target for Liverpool, Klopp could target a sensational return for Luis Suarez if Mohamed Salah were to leave this summer.

Reports in Spain claimed earlier this week that Liverpool would welcome the Uruguayan forward back at Anfield if the Egyptian did decide to head for the exit.

Suarez was talismanic at Liverpool after joining from Ajax in 2011, netting 82 times in 133 appearances, but his age of 34 and wage demands would not seem to fit the FSG model of signings.

This would see Malen rated as a bigger priority, given how young he is, while he would command much cheaper wages.
