Apple reportedly preparing to unveil new iPad Pro next month

Apple is preparing to roll out its newest iPad as the work-from-home trend boosts sales of the gadgets, a new report says.

The tech titan is developing a revamped version of its iPad Pro tablets that it could announce as soon as April, according to Bloomberg News.

The high-end devices would come in the same sizes as the current models but boast a stronger camera and a better processor comparable to the homemade M1 chips in Apple’s latest laptops, the outlet reported Wednesday.

They’re also being tested with a Thunderbolt port like the one on the new Macs, which would allow iPad users to connect their tablets to monitors, hard drives or other external devices, sources told Bloomberg.

The update to Apple’s most expensive iPad model reportedly comes on the heels of a tablet sales boom driven by people working and attending school remotely during the coronavirus pandemic.

iPad sales surged about 41 percent to $8.4 billion in the final three months of last year — which included the holiday shopping season — following an 11 percent jump through the 2020 fiscal year that ended in September, according to Apple’s earnings reports.

An April launch would come about a year after Apple last revamped the iPad Pro in March 2020 and roughly seven months after the September unveiling of the new iPad Air.

But Apple’s plans could change given that it hasn’t yet announced its first product launch event of the year, according to Bloomberg.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday. Its stock price dropped about 1.8 percent to $122.50 as of 11:11 a.m.
