They don’t call him $50k for nothing… Dan Ige takes home UFC Performance of the Night bonus for stunning 22-second KO of Gavin Tucker

  • Dan Ige bounced back from a July 2020 loss to Calvin Kattar with a stunning win
  • The 29-year-old lived up to his ‘$50k’ nickname with a Performance of the Night
  • He called out ‘Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung and could face South Korean next

Dan ‘$50k’ Ige lived up to his nickname with an incredible 22-second knockout victory against Gavin Tucker at UFC Vegas 21.

UFC hands out a $50k bonus for the Performance of the Night, which Ige secured after a devastating one-punch finish in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The top 10-ranked featherweight contender set up for an exchange in the middle of the ring with Canadian opponent Tucker, but felled him with a strong right hand to fulfil his pre-fight promise of receiving the bonus.

As Tucker collapsed, the referee quickly stepped in and Ige backed off to avoid any follow-up punches.

The bout only took place after his initial opponent Ryan Hall was injured in the build-up to the fight and was replaced by Tucker.

Ige told MMA Fighting: ‘It was a little bit unfortunate because I was the guy, I wanted to be the guy to step up, fight him and shut his game down.

‘Unfortunately, he got injured and he sent me a message when it happened and it was just an unfortunate event. That’s the sport we’re in. We can’t control everything in our lives and our training.

The 29-year-old Ige had gone on a six-fight winning streak before a unanimous decision loss to Calvin Kattar in July 2020, but got himself back on track with this convincing victory.

Up next the Hawaii-born fighter – who is now 15-3 in MMA and 7-2 in UFC – could face ‘Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung, whom he called out after his win.
