Chicago police sergeant shot, injured outside of station house

A Chicago police sergeant was shot in the face outside of a station house on Sunday, authorities said.

The sergeant with the Chicago Police Department was hospitalized with a graze wound after being struck in the parking lot of the 6th District, police said.

Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown wrote on Twitter that the sergeant “is recovering in good spirits.”

“Our officers display an enormous level of resiliency and put themselves in harm’s way each and every day, whether it’s responding to a call or simply standing in their own parking lot,” Brown wrote.

No arrests were made as of late Sunday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Brown said the sergeant injured Sunday was the 13th member of the department to be shot at this year, but the first who was struck with gunfire, according to the report.

Last year, 79 members of the department were fired upon, added Brown.
