Justice League 2 and 3 ‘might now be possible’ after Snyder Cut’s cliff-hanger says source

Back in 2017, Joss Whedon’s cut of Justice League bombed at the cinemas with hopes of sequels dashed. But ever since Zack Snyder’s Justice League has been announced for HBO Max and NOW TV, DC fans remain hopeful for Warner Bros to green-light the sequels. After all, the director has revealed that next week’s four-hour Snyder Cut ends with a massive cliffhanger.

Snyder told I Minutemen in February: “The reality is, as far as I know, there’s no interest and/or appetite to do more of these movies from Warner Bros. With me, anyway.

“There is a suggestion of course in the film, as there would be within any of these movies, of a larger universe that’s still out there.”

While in January he had said to ComicBook Debate there’s no plan for a Justice League 2, then added: “But like I said, I didn’t think I’d be here, so who knows?”

And now the latest rumour from an insider source is that the Justice League trilogy may well be completed after all.

Plus next year sees 2022’s The Flash, which will star both Ezra Miller’s speedster and Affleck’s Batman. Of course, the question for a long time is whether this movie will follow the continuity of Whedon’s theatrical release of Justice League or the cliff-hanger of the Snyder Cut?

Well, speaking with DC Cinematic Cast podcast, Snyder said: “Canon for Warner Bros is the Joss Whedon version of Justice League, right? That’s, in their mind, that’s canon. And what I’m doing is not. Everything is not. So it’s just interesting, that relationship.”

Nevertheless, perhaps a Justice League 2 and 3 could follow a different timeline in the DC multiverse?

Meanwhile, also in the works at Warner Bros is JJ Abrams’ recently announced new Superman movie, although it’s unclear if Henry Cavill will return as the Man of Steel. And then in another universe, there’s Robert Pattinson starring in 2022’s The Batman.

The Batman is set in present-day but rather than following Affleck’s older gruff Dark Knight, this Bruce Wayne is just starting out as a crime fighter.

The new movie is set in Year 2 of his time as the Caped Crusader and features both The Riddler and The Penguin as villains.

Considering The Flash is introducing the multiverse, perhaps Pattison’s Batman will crossover into the DCEU?

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is on NOW TV and HBO Max from March 18, while The Batman will hit cinemas on March 4, 2022.
