Bruno Fernandes ‘refuses to commit to bumper new £200,000-a-week Manchester United deal’ as he wants assurances about club’s transfer plans after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said they would NOT spend big this summer

  • Bruno Fernandes has been by far Manchester United’s best player this season
  • Old Trafford club want to reward the Portuguese with £200,000-a-week deal
  • They hope 26-year-old will sign five-year contract but he wants assurances
  • Fernandes wants to know what United’s intentions are in the transfer market

Bruno Fernandes is ‘refusing to commit to a new £200,000-a-week Manchester United contract’ unless he has assurances over the clubs transfer plans.

The midfielder has been Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s most important players this season and the club are working to get him tied down on a fresh long-term deal, stretching five years.

But Fernandes, 26, wants to understand what United are planning to do in the transfer market before he puts pen to paper, according to The Sun.

The midfielder is one of United’s lower paid first team stars despite his incredible performances since signing from Sporting Lisbon.

He is currently on a £100,000-a-week deal, well behind top earners David de Gea (£375,000-a-week) and Paul Pogba (£290,000-a-week).

The contract he signed when signing for the club last January lasts five-and-a-half years with the option of an additional year extension.

United are reportedly ready to double his standard wage and then boost it even further with performance and achievement based incentives.

Last week, Solskjaer admitted that a massive spending spree in the summer would be unlikely as the club’s finances have been hit hard by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

But their star player is eager to hear what United have planned to improve the side.

Fernandes has scored a staggering 22 goals from midfield in all competitions for United so far this season.

He netted in the 2-0 derby win over Manchester City at the weekend and insisted that the Premier League title race is not over, calling it a ‘marathon not a sprint’.

United are 11 points behind City and will need Fernandes firing on all cylinders if they are to have any chance of catching their neighbours.
