Priyanka Chopra announces that she will be opening an Indian restaurant in New York City: ‘I’m thrilled to present to you SONA’
Priyanka Chopra has announced that she will be opening a restaurant called SONA in New York City at the end of March.
The 38-year-old actress made the news public by posting a trio of images to her Instagram account on Saturday.
Priyanka wrote a lengthy message in the post’s caption where she expressed enthusiasm OVER her new business venture, which is based at 36 East 20th Street in the city’s Flatiron district.

Chopra began her message by writing, ‘I’m thrilled to present to you SONA, a new restaurant in NYC that I poured my love for Indian food into.’
She then explained the concept behind her restaurant and noted that ‘SONA is the very embodiment of timeless India and the flavours I grew up with.’
The Isn’t It Romantic actress emphasized that she aimed to take diners ‘on a food journey through my amazing country.’
Priyanka also included two photos from a puja that had been held in the restaurant’s space in 2019; her husband, Nick Jonas, was featured in one of the snaps.

The same day, Chopra’s business partner Maneesh K. Goyal made a post to his own Instagram account to make his feelings about the soon-to-open restaurant known.
The restauranteur stressed that SONA was not planned out by one person in particular and wrote that ‘Opening a restaurant is a team effort for sure.’
He then spoke about Chopra’s dedication to providing a space for her culture to be appreciated, writing that ‘There is no one who better—and more boldly—personifies “global Indian” than Pri.’
Goyal also noted that Chopra was very hands-on while the restaurant’s concept was being developed.
‘From the design, to the menu, to the music, to even the name, Priyanka has her fingerprints all over SONA,’ he wrote.

In addition to her recent efforts as a restauranteur, Chopra has several film projects currently in the pipeline.
The actress is set to lead the cast of the upcoming romantic drama movie Text for You, which will see her acting alongside Outlander star Sam Heughan as well as singer Celine Dion.
Principal photography on the project began in October of 2020 and moved into post-production this year.
The entertainment industry figure has also been added to the cast of the forthcoming Matrix film; her role has not been specified as of yet.
Although the feature was initially set to be released in May of this year, it was pushed back to December of 2022 before having its premiere date rescheduled to December 22 of this year.
