Incredible clip from Rangers dressing room shows boss Steven Gerrard sliding across floor

Best dive of the season! Incredible behind-the-scenes clip from Rangers dressing room shows boss Steven Gerrard sliding across beer-soaked floor alongside his delirious players while thousands gather outside… with Gers now ONE point from winning title

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard could not contain his delight after his side’s win against St Mirren on Saturday, sliding across a beer-soaked dressing-room floor in delirious celebration as the title party started in earnest at Ibrox.

Jubilant players and staff had, following the 3-0 win, ran to the corner of the stadium to celebrate with fans congregated outside – who had flouted lockdown rules to cheer them on.

But the joyous scenes did not stop there as videos from the dressing-room emerged on social media showing Gerrard and the whole Rangers squad and staff singing, dancing and drinking – with a first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years within touching distance now.

The Gers could be crowned champions as early as 2pm on Sunday if Celtic fail to beat Dundee United in the lunchtime kick-off.

After the full-time whistle, defender Connor Goldson led the squad and backroom team to the corner of their stadium, where they jumped with joy in front of spectators gathered outside the gates.

Gers boss Gerrard went so far as to stick his head out of a dressing-room window to join in the celebrations with supporters.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Government has slammed fans who breached lockdown rules to throw their support behind their side ahead of the visit of St Mirren, with footage appearing to show fans swarming the car of Gerrard as he arrived at Ibrox.

Under tier 4 restrictions, mass gatherings are currently banned in Scotland, with the public urged not to leave their homes amid the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the Gers supporters disobeyed those restrictions to welcome their team ahead of their impending title party.

A spokesman for the Scottish Government said: ‘We are extremely disappointed supporters have gathered at Ibrox today.

‘At this crucial stage of suppressing the virus, the actions of this minority of individuals jeopardises the safety of other supporters, the police on duty and the wider community.

‘We will continue to engage with Police Scotland and the club.’

Gerrard’s side are within touching distance of returning to the summit of Scottish football, having had to watch from afar as Celtic reigned supreme for the best part of a decade.

Goals from Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Ianis Hagi secured a comfortable three points for Rangers on Saturday.

Celtic were bidding to win a tenth-successive league title this season, however if they drop points against Dundee United, the Gers will be crowned champions.

Failing that, Gerrard’s side can win the Premiership crown if they defeat Celtic in the Old Firm Derby on March 21.
