One Foot in the Grave star Richard Wilson's memory 'destroyed' after near-death fall

Richard Wilson, 84, has discussed the after effects of hitting his head, after suffering from a heart attack in 2016. The actor said the near-death experience has “destroyed” his memory and he isn’t able to walk as well as he used to. The One Foot In The Grave actor said: “I do get quite tired about not being able to walk as I used to and having to use a stick, but that is frustration more than grumpiness.

“The same goes for my memory, which has got worse since I had a heart attack four years ago in Hampstead, where I live.”

Richard hit his head after falling from a small balcony, which caused a bleed in the brain.

“That’s why my memory has been destroyed a bit. As a result, I am more forgetful – but not more grumpy,” he added.

Richard previously detailed his near-death experience after his fall in 2019.

Speaking to Graham Norton on his former BBC Radio 2 show, he said he doesn’t remember a thing about it.

He explained: “I’m going to mention it because I’d love to know who it was – the great thing about the accident is that there was a doctor walking by, and if he hadn’t been walking by, I wouldn’t be talking to you now.

“I’d love to know who he was.”

The actor starred as the cantankerous character Victor Meldrew between 1990 and 2000.

He added : “I said to myself, ‘I had better not do that any more’” and said he hadn’t done it since.

Richard went on to say electric scooters are “just as bad” but doesn’t want to confront those using them.

“One bumped into an actress friend I was walking with not so long ago, and she was the one who did the complaining,” he added.

Last year, the actor said he initially turned down his popular decade-long role as he was too young.
