Bayern also hold an interest in Norwich City right back Max Aarons but are reluctant to meet the Championship club’s £35m valuation.

Everton are interested in Aarons succeeding Seamus Coleman but will have to sell Burnley target Jonjoe Kenny first. Kenny is on loan at Celtic.

Manchester United, Barcelona and Roma also like Aarons but the asking price could prove prohibitive in the current climate.

Richards is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the Championship this season having impressed for the Royals in both a defence and a wide-midfield role. He will reportedly sign a four-year deal with Bayern.

Richards’ performances have been crucial in Reading’s Premier League promotion bid with the Berkshire side lying fifth in the table with 13 games left to play.

The Royals will be entitled to training compensation when his Reading contract comes to an end.

Richards will challenge Alphonso Davies for a spot on the left-side of the Bayern defence after the Canadian international made the position his own last season.

The 20-year-old played 43 times in Bayern’s treble-winning season last term and was named in the UEFA, FIFA and Champions League Team of the Seasons.

Lucas Hernandez is the other senior left back option at the club, with the 25-year-old Frenchman featuring 26 times for Bayern so far this season.

Richards made his Reading debut on the opening day of the 2017-18 season and has been a regular ever since.

The 23-year-old has made 92 appearances in all competitions for the Championship side, including 30 this season.
