Deputies in California on Tuesday discovered and safely disabled a live bomb that was found at a Sacramento elementary school.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Ethel Baker Elementary School on Laurine Way at around 8am after a school staffer came upon a suspicious device outside an administrative office.

The employee reported that the device appeared to have a fuse.

Deputies also discovered a homemade gun at the school, where a staffer raised the alarm

An Explosive Ordinance Disposal team was sent to the scene and confirmed that the device was a live bomb containing explosive materials, reported CBS Sacramento.

A loaded homemade gun was also found at the scene outside the school office, according to the sheriff’s office.

The school was evacuated and parents were asked to keep their children away from campus.

At 12.32pm local time, the sheriff’s office sent out a tweet, saying that the explosive device has been rendered safe.

It is unclear at this time who had built the bomb and improvised gun, and why these items had been brought to the school.  

Officials are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact them.
