Zendaya asks Vanity Fair to make a question gender neutral

Hollywood siren Zendaya has revealed ‘kindness’ is the quality she most likes in a person.

Speaking on Vanity Fair’s The Proust Questionnaire, she was asked what she most likes in a man. The 24-year-old star from Oakland, California said would rather be asked what she most likes in a ‘person,’ making the question gender neutral.

‘I most like in a person, how about that? It’s such a big question. What is the quality I most like in someone?’ said the Spider-Man star.

‘I would say, “kindness” is kind of not the best way to describe it, but some people are just good people, and you can just feel it,’ added the cover girl.

‘And I don’t know how to explain that, but there’s this little spark they have, or this little special thing that they have, that just you feel safe and happy around them.

‘I don’t know what that is, but some people have it, and it’s special.’

The beauty, who used to date her Euphoria co-star Jacob Elordi, was then asked what quality she most likes in a woman, but didn’t have much more to add. She laughed: ‘Well, I guess that’s the same answer.’

Zendaya has let her feelings on gender be known in the past.

She made the front! 'I would say, "kindness" is kind of not the best way to describe it, but some people are just good people, and you can just feel it,' added the cover girl

In 2017 she released a gender neutral fashion line and in her Spider-Man film she made sure her character dressed in a gender non-binary style.

And she has received an award for impacting LGBTQ youth.

The 24-year-old star appeared on the cover of the 27th annual Vanity Fair Hollywood issue as well as the inside. The issue was released on Tuesday morning and it offered a wide array of talent.

In addition to Zendaya there was veteran siren Charlize Theron, heartthrob Michael B Jordan of Creed and Black Panther fame as well as Awkwafina from Ocean’s Eight for one of their most diverse covers ever.

Artists Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari directed 10 photo shoots across four continents. They used ‘modern techniques’ that allowed VF to minimize on-set personnel and maximize COVID-19 protocol.

In the past, the VF Hollywood issue tended to feature white stars such as Nicole Kidman, Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks, Reese Witherspoon and Sandra Bullock with little diversity. But this year is very different.

Also included on the cover are Sacha Baron Cohen (The Trial of the Chicago 7, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm), Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live, Big Mouth), Michaela Coel, (I May Destroy You), Spike Lee (Da 5 Bloods, David Byrne’s American Utopia), LaKeith Stanfield (Judas and the Black Messiah) and Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek).

Vanity Fair’s issue is ‘celebrating the actors, producers, and directors who pushed storytelling forward with hope and humanity during a surreal year,’ the press release noted.

The portfolio focuses on how ‘interpreting this year’s events has become central to their work,’ and how the transformation the entertainment industry has undergone ‘could present an opportunity for more lasting, positive change.’

‘We could not have asked for a more talented, transcendent cast of characters than our cover stars this year,’ editor in chief Radhika Jones wrote in an editor’s letter for the issue.

Meanwhile, the Malcolm & Marie actress – who has been working since she was young – recently admitted the pandemic has given her a chance to discover more about herself and what she’s like away from her job.

Zendaya said: ‘For me, it’s that I never really got to know who I was without work. I’ve always been working. I started working when I was so young, and I’ve always just had a consistent thing happening in my life. I just had never spent that much time with myself. I was like, ‘What makes me happy? What do I like to do other than work? Do I have any hobbies?’

‘I basically get to do my hobby for a living. So it’s like, ‘What else do I even like?’ Facing that was interesting for sure.’
