“They have glands in their skin that produce a poison, and they are used by the local [indigenous] people, who kill them and extract that poison to put on their blowpipe darts,” Sir David said.
“But some people keep them as pets,” the natural historian told Radio Times.
Sir David has kept the deadly frog as a pet in the past and would do so again in the future if he had the time.
The documentary-maker revealed there are clubs for people who keep the poison dart frogs and he sporadically receives photographs from those who have the creatures as pets.
